None of us would expect to have perfect abs after one set of sit-ups. We all know that it will take months of watching our diet and performing regular stomach exercises to end up with a flatter stomach.
Learning to relax works the same way. Most of have spent our adult lives building up stress levels by balancing work with our personal lives. To me it seems that stress levels have built up slowly since my twenties and have reached an uncomfortable peak in my thirties. There always seems to be more and more to do and less and less time to do it. Running a home, looking after the kids, paying the bills.. Most of us put everything else first and ourselves last.
Relaxation Routine
Learning to relax is crucial to a happy and stress free life! Bringing relaxation into your life gives you more energy, helps you to get rid of those frown lines and just makes life happier. But just like that flat stomach, you have to commit to finding the time to re-teach yourself how to relax.
Keep It Simple!
All you need is a simple relaxation routine. Creating a complex ritual won't work for most people. A short relaxation routine is better and you are more likely to stick to it and repeat often.
A simple relaxation technique could be to lay down comfortably (maybe after drinking a cup of chamomile tea) with plenty of cushions to support your head and neck. Use an eye pillow to block out the light and listen to some calming music or maybe a recording of some nature sounds.
You can also relieve stress with visualization breathing while laying down and breathing in the calming aroma of your herbal eye pillow.
