How to Power Nap

Eye Pillow Power Nap

Balancing life's demands with the body / mind's need to relax and recharge can be tricky. I take my down time as seriously as I take my other responsibilities. Think about it; don't we have the responsibility to ourselves to balance our frantic lives with the needed rest and relaxation that we need to function at our best?

For me, one of the great pleasures in life is the “power nap”. If I'm feeling run down during the day I'll take a 15 – 20 minute nap to put my body and mind in to equilibrium. Here's the problem; as tired as the body is, the mind sometimes steams ahead like a freight train which stops me from getting the rest I'm craving. This is why sleep aids like my eye pillow are so valuable. My eye pillow is my secret to allowing my mind to slow down and drift into sleep.

This is how I do it. When I lay down for a nap I place my eye pillow over my eyes and feel the cool, soft smooth fabric on my face. I then notice the subtle pressure on my closed eye lids. This subtle pressure on my eyes feels comfortable and soothing. Even as my mind is thinking of all the things I need to get done, I focus on that soothing pressure feeling on my eyelids. While focusing on the physical sensation I notice how my thoughts slow down. Within minutes of this technique I'm asleep.

Give this technique a try next time you lay down for a nap and your mind is jumping around like a monkey at a peanut farm.
